What to do With Projects That Don't Sell
"When you're looking around and trying to figure out what to sell, we do a GREAT job as Makers of testing different ideas. But sometimes we decide to not pursue a certain style of product with our business but we still have the prototypes sitting around. So what do you do with all the stuff you make but can't sell? In this video we're going to discuss some things you can do. 1. Everyone's going to hate this one, but sometimes throwing it out is better than keeping it around. I know that might be painful, but not as painful as losing valuable shop space. Also, staring at the object and recognizing it as a 'business failure' isn't very encouraging either. Sometimes cutting your losses is the best thing you can do, although it seems like a silly idea. I hate throwing out boards that don't meet our quality standards, but they're not worth my time to fix or repair in most cases. I just need to get it out of sight! 2. Another thing you can do is, if the item is on-brand, give it away to raise awareness about your business! A local charity auction or community club or group might LOVE to have that table you can't seem to sell at the craft show. Consider giving it to a good home if it hurts too much to throw it away. 3. The last idea we have for your projects that don't sell is to discount them! Bundle them, make them add-ons someone gets for free by buying something else. You'll be able to move product faster."
